Data Centre Upgrade

Riliance is pleased to announce a data centre upgrade. Going forward the Riliance platform will be hosted on Azure data centres based in the UK. The move represents a commitment to adopting to the best technology available that will enable us to enhance the platforms and services we deliver to our clients.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to safe guarding data and fulfilling our obligations under GDPR. While conducting a review of the best data centres available to Riliance we prioritised the safety and availability of customer data, alongside the technology capabilities of the hosted environment. We have conducted a DPIA alongside our standard internal risk assessments and due diligence. There is no detrimental impact to customers or the safeguarding in place around data and going forward we will be able to deliver additional services by leveraging industry leading technology.

About Azure
Azure is an industry leading cloud hosting solution with an established reputation for stability, security and quality. The platform is privately maintained by Riliance, giving the development team full control over the configuration and setup of the environment.
We are currently finalising deployment to the new environment. All systems will continue operating as normal and there will be no extra downtime to carry out this migration. The migration process is being closely reviewed and monitored to avoid any disruptions.
Here are some of the important things about moving to Azure and our relationship with you:

Are we still GDPR compliant?
Yes – we have an agreement in place with you (which can be found here) which includes our contractual obligations as a data processor for you. We have fulfilled these obligations, including the requirements regarding contracts being in place with our sub-processors, and the security requirements around data protection. The migration to Azure will not impact on our agreement with you and we will continue to fulfil our contractual and regulatory obligations under GDPR.

Will this impact us?
No - There will be no adverse impact to any of our clients. We do not anticipate any downtime in business hours and this will not affect our release schedule. Any maintenance windows will be communicated to you by email.

Is it secure?
Yes - Data Security remains a top priority for us and the data centre move will only enhance our data security framework. We conduct penetration tests on our software at least annually, working with industry experts Sec-1 and NCC to evaluate our security protocols against known and emerging threats. The new environment is subject to the same rigorous testing criteria at software and hardware level.

Are the servers ISO 27001:2013 compliant?
Yes – Riliance maintains the ISO 27001:2013 standard and the Azure environment for all data centres in use by Riliance hold the ISO 27001:2013 accreditation. These accreditations, and performance against the Information Security Management Standards required, are audited once a year by an independent auditor approved by the ISO.

Is the data still held in the UK?
Yes – Our servers are located entirely in the UK. We have 2 separate data centres in the UK that have fail over capability in the event of disruption to one of our data centres.

Is the data still held in the EEA?
Yes - All data is stored within the EEA. Our servers will be based in the UK and if required pending the outcome of the current Brexit process, we can migrate to data centres on the European Continent.

Can we still fulfil our obligations as a Data Processor?
Yes - We are fully compliant with the GDPR, our obligations as a processor, management of sub-processors, security and we will continue to support you in your role as data controllers, including events where data subjects exercise their rights under GDPR.
